Profitable pressure-washing pricing starts with knowing what each job must cover—not copying a competitor’s square-foot rate. Your estimate should account for labor, chemicals, travel, equipment, overhead, risk, and the profit required to keep the business growing.
1. Estimate the Real Labor Requirement
Include setup, surface preparation, washing time, detail work, cleanup, customer communication, and travel. A two-hour wash can consume substantially more than two hours of paid time once the complete job cycle is included.
2. Include Chemicals and Consumables
Estimate detergents, surfactants, fuel, water-related costs, replacement tips, personal protective equipment, and other consumables. Small expenses become significant when they are omitted from every estimate.
3. Recover Travel and Overhead
Your price must help cover insurance, software, advertising, vehicles, equipment maintenance, licensing, administration, and non-billable time. These costs exist even when they do not appear directly on a customer’s property.
4. Add Profit Intentionally
Profit is not whatever remains after the job. Build it into the price after calculating the cost of performing the work. Review actual job results regularly and adjust assumptions when labor or material usage differs from the estimate.
5. Set a Minimum Service Charge
A minimum charge helps protect smaller jobs from consuming travel, setup, and administrative time without producing an adequate return. Set the minimum using your own operating costs and target profit.
